A Young Trustee’s Journey, first hand

‘Hi, I’m Harri. I am a 19 year old Business Management Student
at Swansea University; alongside my studies I have the privilege of
Managing the ‘Get on Board Cymru’ Project at the Children’s
Rights Unit (CRU).

‘My Journey to being a Trustee began in 2014 at Secondary
School; this was when I first started volunteering. Whilst at
School, I was an active pupil took on the role of Whole School
Council Chairperson. This was the beginning of my portfolio in
committee roles. As part of the School Council, I met the then
Children’s Commissioner Keith Towler, as well as staff of the
Children’s Rights Unit. I noticed the importance of Children’s
Rights as a young person and identified, as studies have shown,
Article Twelve of the UNCRC really is the gateway right: The right
to be listened to, and be taken seriously. I volunteered as a
Childrens Rights Champion and aspired to adopt roles which could
influence and make rights a reality for other Children and Young
People…’
