Webinar _ Support For Welsh Farming After Brexit (English)

Webinar: Brexit and our land: Securing the future of Welsh farming
Consultation

Date: 5 September 2018, 2pm

Welsh Government want your views on their proposals on future
support for farming and land management in Wales.

Welsh Government are consulting on the proposals for a planned,
multi-year transition and seeking views on:

  • A new land management programme consisting of an
Economic Resilience Scheme and a Public Goods Scheme.
  • How the specific schemes that will deliver the support
    should be designed.

This
consultation
is an important opportunity for all
stakeholders – farming and forestry related businesses,
environmental organisations, local authorities, members of the
public, professional bodies and others – to provide their views on
what actions we should take to support land managers after we leave
the European Union.

By the end of this webinar you will understand:

  • What the consultation is about and how it relates to
current legislation and priorities for the environment and rural
    development
  • Why the consultation matters to your work
  • How to respond to the consultation

This webinar will be delivered in English but contributions and
questions are welcomed in Welsh or English.

the future of Welsh farming’ Consultation

Welsh Government has set out five principles for
change:

  • Principle 1 – We need to keep land managers on the land.
  • Principle 2 – Food production is vital for our nation.
  • Principle 3 – We need to ensure our farming and forestry
businesses can be prosperous and resilient, whatever the nature of
    Brexit.
  • Principle 4 – Future support will focus on delivering
additional public goods from our land.
  • Principle 5 – Our new schemes should be accessible to all.

Key areas of activity Welsh Government will support through the
two proposed schemes:

Economic Resilience
Scheme

  • Increasing market potential
  • Improving productivity
  • Diversification
  • Effective risk management
  • Knowledge exchange, skills and innovation

Public Goods
Scheme

  • Carbon sequestration and decarbonisation to mitigate the
    effects of climate change
  • Reducing flood risk
  • Increasing habitat resilience
  • Improving air and water quality
