PROCESSIONS Cardiff

Processions

PROCESSIONS is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part in a mass participation artwork to celebrate one hundred years of votes for women.

In 1918, the Representation of the People Act gave the first British women the right to vote. One hundred years on, arts charity Artichoke and 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary, are inviting women* and girls across the UK to come and mark this historic moment in Belfast, Cardiff as part of a living portrait of women in the 21st century.

This is the largest ever attempted art event in the UK. 100 UK organisations, including 10 across Wales, are creating 100 unique banners for Processions in collaboration with female artists and community groups such as Welsh Women’s Aid, the Women’s Arts Association, Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Ruthin Craft Centre.

Apart from these 100 organisations, women are coming together to host their own banner-making activities. These might be as a part of a regular coffee morning, Girl Guiding activities, or setting up in their own living room with their friends, at schools, in village halls, at their WI meeting, or places of worship.

The Facebook event page is regularly updated with banner making workshops linking the opportunities to participate all around Wales.

There are also opportunities to volunteer at the event.

Be part of something extraordinary this summer!
