Wales and Africa grant now open
We are pleased to announce that the Wales and Africa grant scheme will continue for the next three years!
Round 1 of the Wales and Africa 2022-25 scheme is now open to applicants.
The scheme enables community groups and organisations in Wales to access funding for small-scale projects that contribute to Wales’ delivery of UN Sustainable Development Goals and deliver benefits to Wales and Africa. Working with Sub Saharan African partners, organisations can apply for grants between £1,000-£25,000 to make a tangible contribution to one of the four following themes:
- Health
- Lifelong Learning
- Climate Change and Environment
- Sustainable Livelihoods
Please ensure that you have read the guidance document on the WCVA website before beginning your request for funding.

PREVIOUS AWARDEES
An example of a previous awardee is the iokolo Network, it works with communities living on the periphery of Niokolo-Koba National Park in Senegal to better understand issues which affect their lives through their eyes. Niokolo Network co-develops projects which are led by local people to achieve healthy villages and a healthy environment.
In round 4 of the Wales and Africa grant scheme Niokolo Network were awarded £4,623 to work with partner organisations in Senegal to support people living in rural villages around Niokolo-Koba National Park to obtain their birth certificate.
The project worked in three villages with three village primary schools. These schools had 127, 108, and 457 students respectively in the year when this project took place. Before the project there were 208 students that did not have a birth certificate and who would have been forced to drop out of school before taking their end of primary exam.’
