Celebrating the beautiful habitats of Wales
This year’s Wales Nature Week takes place between 29 May – 6 June 2021. Find out how you can take part and help us celebrate Wales’ diverse range of natural habitats.
We are surrounded by nature right on our doorsteps, often taking beautiful wildlife for granted. This has become even clearer recently, where COVID restrictions have encouraged us to take advantage of local green spaces and appreciate the beauty of our local nature.
So come and join us from 29 May to 6 June to celebrate Wales’ fantastic habitats. Don’t miss this opportunity to discover nature on your doorstep, who lives there and what you can do to help!
This year, we are spotlighting a different habitat each day, and the species they support. Our community of experts will be on hand throughout Wales Nature Week to answer your queries and offer nature-related tips to ensure your participation is fun and informative!
WALES NATURE WEEK EVENTS
This year we are taking Wales Nature Week online with interactive activities such as The Wales Garden Bioblitz, the Big Nature Quiz, Q&As on social media and many more!
As the theme for Wales Nature Week is Habitats in Wales, each day we will spotlight a different habitat:
29 May: Wales Garden Bioblitz
During the day, record all the species you find in your garden for 24 hours to build a national species snapshot. Submit your records via the LERC Wales App and join the fun on Twitter and Facebook using #WalesGardenBioBlitz21 to share your results!
30 May: Habitat Woodland
We are dedicating this day to our woodlands! Join us for a Woodland bug hunt, Tree ID class and an informative video from Celtic Rainforests.
31 May: Habitat Wetlands
Celebrating our wetland habitats in Wales, tune in to a dragonfly and damselfly Q&A with the British DragonFly Society and a Pond Dip with Silent Valley Nature Reserve. Finish off the day with the Big Nature Quiz with the Wales’ Local Environmental Record Centres!
1 June: Habitats Meadows/ Farmlands
On this day we are spotlighting our precious meadow habitats with a meadow species virtual walk and community meadow management tips.
2 June: Habitat Peatlands
Learn more about the importance of peatland habitats in Wales with videos from the Snowdonia Peatlands Project and the Lost Peatlands Project.
3 June: Habitat Coastal and Marine
On this day we are focusing on our stunning coastal and marine habitats with a rock pooling for beginners’ video and an informative short film on the sand dune habitats in Wales.
4 June: Habitat Urban
Learn more about the importance of urban habitats with an urban safari and a short film showcasing green walls on buildings in cities.
5 June: LNP Cymru Showcase
The LNP Cymru showcase is a great place to learn more about the LNP projects and their impact, the role of co-ordinators, and how you can get involved. This day also coincides with World Environment Day and we are teaming up with Volunteers Week to celebrate environmental volunteering on social media to thank volunteers that make the planet a better place.
6 June: Nature and Wellbeing
We are ending Wales Nature Week the right way – in relaxation! Spending time in nature can have a positive effect on wellbeing and mental health and we want you to share your tips and stories on maintaining wellbeing in nature.

LOCAL NATURE PARTNERSHIPS
These events have been organised by the Local Nature Partnership (LNP) Cymru Project. The LNP Cymru initiative is a three-year project running until April 2022, funded by Welsh Government, and coordinated by WCVA. The partnership consists of all local authorities and national parks in Wales, Wales Biodiversity Partnership, WCVA and the Local Environment Records Centres. The project aims to build a nature recovery network across Wales, engaging people, communities, businesses and decision-makers in both practical action and strategic planning for a healthy, resilient, and nature-rich Wales.
