Could your organisation benefit from a student placement?

The Futures Connect Team at Cardiff University are offering
opportunities to place students and graduates in a variety of paid
and unpaid placements. Having high-calibre, independent and
pro-active students to support you with a particular project, or
aspect of your organisations work, can have significant
benefits.

Students are looking for a variety of experiences; from creating
a marketing strategy, to supporting with research and funding bids.
Cardiff University recognises the importance of work experience to
compliment students’ academic study and are keen to link with
different organisations in the third sector to facilitate this.

The team can offer help with:

  • developing the role description,
  • attracting and selecting the right student,
  • supporting you and the student, before, during, and after the
    experience.

Althea

Paid Internship, WCVA

‘It exceeded expectations as the intern showed exceptional
ability and creativity and was able to develop the work in
unforeseen ways.’

Althea Cooley, WCVA intern

‘My role involved researching and reviewing procedures for MV50
Sport award, promoting the award though social media and looking
into options of developing technology for sport including a
potential app for volunteers to use. I created surveys, ran focus
groups with Young Ambassadors, arranged meetings, visited events,
and promoted it all through social media – all in the short space
of 3 months.’

Still not convinced? Below are benefits other third sector
organisations have had from participating:

Unpaid Insight, Play Wales

‘The placement was useful and valuable. As a result we now have
an objective marketing strategy for a potential international
project we’re seeking external funding for. We have found the
programme to be extremely user friendly – from the advertising a
post, recruiting and working with a student on the project. The
minimal paper work involved is a help! We would definitely like to
work with Cardiff University and its students in the future.’

Unpaid Insight,Action on Hearing Loss

‘We would hire a participant again. They bring a real boost to
the team, a different way of looking at tasks, lots of energy.’

Paid Internship, Glamorgan Gwent Archaeological
Trust

‘The placement was beneficial as it allowed us to complete tasks
that we had no funding streams for but nevertheless brought closure
to live projects. There was a tangible output that will remain as
advice to the public and other professionals on our website. We
would definitely hire a placement participant again.’

Paid Internship, Cytûn

‘The flexibility of the programme allowed us to create a bespoke
work schedule which suited both intern and ourselves. We fully
intend to use this scheme again.’

Paid Internship, Cymorth Cymru

‘We had a brilliant experience of the programme. The intern
herself was conscientious, interested and extremely hard working.
The internship was created to deliver one of our key strategic
objectives (a campaign to protect homelessness funding) and so they
were involved, very quickly, in strategic discussions and
activities. It was highly beneficial not only to us but to our
members.’

Cardiff University also run the Santander Internship Scheme so
funding for paid Internships is sometimes available. To find out
