Discover your garden nature in Wales Nature Week!

Gardens, large and small are fantastic places for all kinds of plants and animals. This year, Wales Nature Week is all about nature in our gardens – and we need your help!
We want you to share your encounters with the amazing variety of birds, native plants, bees and bugs that share your garden. You may be lucky enough to have a hedgehog visit! And of course, you can join in if you don’t have a garden by spotting nature from your window.
Our community of experts will be on hand throughout Wales Nature Week to answer your queries, offer tips on how to make your garden wildlife-friendly and help you to record your sightings to build a better picture of our nature neighbours.
Wales Nature Week Events
We have a jam-packed week of interactive garden nature events for you to take part in, including Moth Trap Live, the Big Welsh Nature Quiz and live Q&As on social media plus many more interactive events in your local area!
Saturday 30 May – Join LERC Wales staff and the recorders of Wales to discover wonderful Welsh wildlife in your garden! Nature lovers across the nation are invited to BioBlitz their garden, looking for species – common and rare – to contribute to our Wales wide species snapshot. Record all the species you can find in your garden for 24 hours (midnight to midnight) to build a national species snapshot for Wales Nature Week. Follow the fun on Facebook and Twitter with #WalesGardenBioBlitz and submit your records via the LERC Wales App http://bit.ly/LERC-App
Monday 1 June – Join Buglife Cymru’s Conservation Officer and bee expert Liam Olds for a live Q&A on bees in your garden. If you have a question, concern or just a story to share about the bees in your garden, bring them along to our expert on Monday 1st June at 3pm – LIVE on Twitter @NPTWildlife
Tuesday 2 June – Moth Trap Live! Join NPT and Swansea Local Nature Partnership member Barry Stewart LIVE from his garden in Swansea, opening the moth trap to see what species were caught overnight. Join us on Facebook at 9:30am on Tuesday 2nd June to see what species have landed in the trap overnight. Maybe you will be inspired to start moth trapping for yourself! Wednesday 3 June – Join Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust’s Connecting the Dragons Project Officer for a live Q&A on reptiles and amphibians and reptiles in your garden. If you have a question, concern or just a story to share about the ‘dragons’ in your garden, bring them along to our expert on Wednesday 3rd June at 6pm – LIVE on Twitter @NPTWildlife
Thursday 4 June – Challenge your natural history knowledge this Wales Nature Week and join LERC Wales for a virtual pub quiz at 7pm on Thursday 4th June. From fish facts to plant particulars, how much do you know about out wonderful Welsh wildlife?
Friday 5 June – To coincide with World Environment Day, we are focusing on all the environmental volunteering that takes place every day. From the smallest to the largest contributions, let us show thanks for the volunteering that makes the planet a better place. During the day share stories of the volunteering that has supported the environment.
Saturday 6 June – Nature well-being day. Relax and wind down – naturally. Take a moment to sit in the garden or by a window and experience the sights of nature. Feeling more active? Gentle stretching or light exercise outdoors is a wonderful tonic to mind and body. We love to hear from you – share your artwork, prose or general experiences. #nature4wellbeing
Sunday 7 June – Armchair birding day. Grab a cuppa and your bird guide and see how many species are about. Can you get to 10 species? Don’t forget to look out for those flyover specialities like Swift, House Martin and Buzzard. #armchairbirding
These events have been organised by the Local Nature Partnership (LNP) Cymru Project. The LNP Cymru initiative is a three year project running until April 2022, funded by Welsh Government and coordinated by WCVA. The partnership consists of all local authorities and national parks in Wales, Wales Biodiversity Partnership, WCVA and the Local Environment Records Centres. The project aims to build a nature recovery network across Wales, engaging people, communities, businesses and decision-makers in both practical action and strategic planning for a healthy, resilient and nature-rich Wales.
