WCVA Welcomes New Safeguarding Training Officer

WCVA’s Safeguarding Team are delighted to welcome a new member of staff, Cerri Dando, who will be taking the lead on refreshing our safeguarding training offer for the voluntary sector in Wales.

WCVA has long provided safeguarding training for the sector and in recent years we have seen an increase in demand, especially for new courses and bespoke, tailored packages for individual organisations.

The COVID-19 crisis has highlighted safeguarding issues which have had implications for the training that organisations provide for their staff and trustees. This has also required us to adapt the way we deliver.

Cerri also works for the NSPCC, Child Protection in Sport Unit on a part-time basis where she works with National Governing Bodies of Sport in developing their safeguarding policies, procedures and processes to achieve the Safeguarding Standards.

As well as delivering safeguarding training to volunteers, coaches, lead officers of sport, athletes, parents, boards, and officials, Cerri has previously been a lecturer in Sports Development and Management and the Netball Director at Cardiff Metropolitan University. In these roles Cerri has worked with many volunteers and registered charities.

Cerri will bring further skills, knowledge and experience to the WCVA team and we look forward to working with her in this new role.

We aim to develop a refreshed offer by the autumn and will talking to our members over the summer to ensure we reflect your needs.

In the meantime, if you would like to discuss your organisation’s safeguarding training needs, please do get in touch: Safeguarding@wcva.cymru

We can offer a range of options from information briefings through to bespoke tailored packages around the following topics:

  • Introduction to safeguarding
  • The role of the designated Safeguarding Officer
  • Safeguarding for Trustees
  • Safer Recruitment
  • Designated Safeguarding Officer Refresher
